Present in all our food supplements and green clay gel, SUPEROXIDE DISMUTASE (SOD) is probably the most important discovery in modern biology.

A gift from nature

SOD is an enzyme that every living organism (animal or plant) produces naturally, and without which it cannot survive.

Naturally present in the human body, it sits at the top of the antioxidant pyramid. It is the most effective of all our defenses, far ahead of vitamin C or polyphenols, as it protects organisms from the oxidative stress involved in aging and certain pathological processes.

A scientific star

Since its discovery in 1969, over 50,000 scientific publications, including more than 1,000 clinical studies, have highlighted its effectiveness in a wide range of applications, including joint health.

For example, people suffering from joint pain produce excessive amounts of superoxide radicals, as their immune system cells struggle to destroy foreign invaders by producing large quantities of free radicals. The latter destroy cellular tissues, including joint and cartilage tissues, causing swelling.

In the early 1980s, Japanese and French studies concluded that SOD produced significant improvements in various arthritic disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis. What's more, side-effects were far less than with conventional anti-inflammatory drugs.

At the time, SOD was already widely used worldwide in cosmetics and pharmacology, but it was produced from bovine extracts.

Mad cow crisis

But in the mid-90s, the mad cow crisis turned everything upside down. With the ban on animal-derived SOD, it became urgent to find a 100% plant-based source of this essential enzyme.

That's when researchers in the Avignon region, having discovered in 1989 that SOD is responsible for the best shelf life of a melon produced from a classic cross-breeding of non-genetically modified plants, developed a process that has been patented internationally.

Thus began the story of melon SOD with BIONOV, based in Eyragues, rapidly becoming the world leader in the most studied molecule in the world, nicknamed "the molecule of youth" in scientific circles.

Nutritional needs with age

Returning to our body's needs, it has been established that the only drawback of SOD is that its natural production diminishes with age... so it's important to provide it!

To compensate, SOD can be found in food (melon, lemon, red cabbage, sprouted wheat, microalgae, pollen, flower pistils...), but in small quantities and unfortunately destroyed during digestion.

Our locally produced SOD

To overcome this problem, LABORATOIRE PRONATUR has formulated its entire range of products with BIONOV's super-concentrated natural SOD, guaranteed 100% bioactive because it is protected by its coating.

Our SOD is extracted from a French variety of ORGANIC melon juice (Cucumis melo L.) produced at a site close to our Saint-Rémy-de-Provence laboratory.

This enzyme benefits from a natural, internationally patented extraction process which guarantees the highest activity through a specific coating, suitable for both nutritional and cosmetic applications.

After solvent-free extraction (from ORGANIC melon), SOD is microencapsulated for optimum protection and efficacy.

In dietary supplements, microencapsulated SOD is released in the intestine, avoiding destruction in the stomach and interacting with intestinal cells.

When massaged into the skin, micro-encapsulation protects the molecule during application and enables its release once in the epidermis.
